TRIPLE TWIRL WITH SCUNCI PIN TWIRLS

Threeways, we all like it.

A product that allows you to use it three ways, that is. (What else were you thinking? #guttermind  =P)

ARE YOU CURIOUS YET?

Well, keep reading y'all. =P

If you have been following ThroughBeautyEyes.Com, you know that I am not exactly the most creative person when it comes to styling my hair. So, when I was invited to participate 2012 Scunci Blogger Contest by the lovely Sophie from Polkadot PR, I thought this is the chance for me to get somewhat "creative".

Scunci's newest product - the Scunci Pin Twirls

I was a tad skeptical that these tiny little ones is able to hold up the mass of my mane - but never under-judge the little ones. They are stronger than you think!

TRIPLE TWIRL - Here's my take on the Pin Twirls:

UNO: UP-IN-A-BUN

The good old bun which is simple yet elegant. You can always style it up a little by adding a dainty head-piece or even a fascinator - whatever floats your boat. =P

Pull your hair up into a bun and instead of securing the bun into place using the conventional bobbi pins or elastic band, simply twirl one of these pins through your bun (or two for extra securitry) and VOILA - you're done! Personally, I like to gently pull a few strands of my fringe for the slightly "messy" look.

DOS: FAUX - BOB

Whilst I enjoy the versatility of styling my long hair, I do miss my Bob days. However, missing doesn't warrant a visit to the salon and have my hair chopped off. At least not for now. With these pin twirls, I can now rock the Bob look whenever I am in the mood for it without having to chop of my locks. Win- Win situation right here!

Split your hair into half and separate them into two sections, twirl your hair inwards inwards like how you would do with a bun. Once you reached your desirable length, secure the "bun" with a Pin Twirl. Repeat the same step with the other section. Faux bob in less than 10 minutes! Easy peasy!

TRES: NATURAL - WAVY - CURLS

Natural wavy curls - almost every girl's dream hairstyle. With all our busy schedule and other commitments, curling iron is not always an option. Running out of time to style your hair before your night out? These pin twirls might be just in time to save your day.

Simply follow the "faux - bob" instruction and let it stay for at least a couple of hours. Don't forget to set it with abundance of hair spray after.
(Note: I am unable to comment on the longevity and how long these waves will last as I have yet to experiment them over a long period of time.)

Quick tip - "faux bob" during the day and release these Pin Twirls before your Friday night drinks to achieve these curls!

Hope you enjoyed the hair styles I created using these Pin Twirls - definitely something fresh and different from my usuals!

Which of the three is your favourite?
The bun? The faux-bob? Or the wavy curls?

Let me know if you had experiemented these Pin Twirls too! :)

XOXO,
A

MANDELA DAY - 18.06.2012 - MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITH JOINFITE.ORG & DERMALOGICA

Honestly speaking, I did not realise how much my beauty collection has expanded over the past 12 months from skin care to make up to hair products. Some were gifted and some were purchased or more likely hoarded by yours truly. I am sure many of you beauty bloggers or beauty lovers out there are guilty of purchasing products in the name of research. Trust me baby, I know. *hides guilty face*

That being said, I am more than likely and happy to purchase a product from a brand that collaborates with charity. With the sale proceeds donated to a certain charity fund (be it fully and partially) most certainly helped "deviate" that twinge of guilt that hits you everytime your purchase a product.

BUT HEY, there's an awesome brand with amazing products which will help fund a "mini loan" to women entrepreneurs which require help all around the world on International Mandela Day. All you need to do is help direct the loan to a woman entrepreneur of your choice.

Ok, ok.... before I stop making sense or lose you halfway, I will give you a quick overview of what joinFITE does and provide you with further deets re how you're able to play your part and help make a difference on International Mandela Day.

WHAT IS joinFITE?

joinFITE is an active philanthropy platform, powered by Kiva.org and championed by Dermalogica, that connects you to women entrepreneurs who need a hand up. By providing women access to small interest free loans, they are able to start or grow a business, bettering themselves, their families, and their communities. joinFITE is a fun and easy way for you to help another when you activate a donation from our partners.

Kiva.org powers the joinFITE platform, and is a non‐profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world.

WHAT AND WHEN IS INTERNATIONAL MANDELA DAY?

International Mandela Day falls on Wednesday, 18 July 2012 - to call for action for people all across the globe to take responsibility of being a change maker. Dermalogica is aiming to achieve a total of 670 microloans worldwide on that day.

HOW TO BE A CHANGEMAKER ON MANDELA DAY?

2. Follow the prompts and CHOOSE your entrepreneur.

3. Be sure to credit your joinFITE team - Australian Beauty Bloggers :)
#beautybloggerspower

4. Don't forget to share your action on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest - simply click on the link to share the pre scripted text and add your own message.

( The power of social media - if trashy tv show like #TheShire can start trending before its first commercial break, I am sure we can help to try achieve the goal of 670 microloans)

Don't forget to mark this day down on your diary and make a difference.
AND don't forget to spread the message.

Every. Click. Counts.

A woman entrepreneur's life might be changed and she will probably secretly thank you for that. :)

For further information regarding joinFITE, please visit joinFITE official website

PS: SPECIAL THANKS to Dermalogica for supporting such a good clause and all the effort and hardwork trying to spread this message.

Have you done your part yet? ;)

FOTD - HARAJUKU INSPIRED FT ILLAMASQUA HUMAN FUNDAMENTALISM COLLECTION

Happy hump day lovelies!

As you may have noticed, ThroughBeautyEyes have been lacking posts in the beauty department as of late - as far as I can recall, the past few posts were update-related kinda pictureposts. It's time to bring the beauty stuff back, don't you think? I mean who am I kidding, one of the main reasons this space was created was to accommodate my never ending musings about beauty related stuff.

Without any further babbling ado, lets move on to my "Harajuku" inspired FOTD created using the Human Fundamentalism Collection by Illamasqua as the "main theme".

Before you start painting images of yours truly strolling down the street with some funky Harajuku outfit, STOP RIGHT NOW! Japanese fashion and I were never friends and I don't think we will ever be. The closest I can possibly get is probably "gyaru-inspired" make up. So, when Fashion Hayley needed someone to help her with her Harajuku - inspired shoot, I turned into my best friend - Google and Google told me "outrageous" and "out of the ordinary" were the key. So, BAM, a little mix and match here and the look is created. :)

The products used from this collection were:

*Skin Base Foundaton in Shade Au (which I mixed with it with my Skin Base Foundation)

*Fundamental Palette
The Fundamental Palette - used to express your alter ego.

From Left to Right:
- Powder Eyeshadow in Hype
- Matte Cream Pigment in Mint Green
- Powder Eyeshadow in Inception
- Liquid Metal in Molten Pewter

*Precision Ink in Scribe (anti-liner that acts a highlighter)

Scribe - The Anti-Liner.

And also, someone outside of the Illamasqua family :P

The INGLOT Custom Eyeshadow Palette used to complement the Fundamental Palette.

STEP TO STEP TUTORIAL TO CREATE THIS HARAJUKU LOOK:

STEP 1: After priming your lid with your favourite eyeshadow primer (I used Urban Decay Primer Potion), apply Cream Pigment in Mint Green all over your lids.

STEP 2: Apply Hype on the 2/3 of your lid and a dark green/teal colour (I used my INGLOT Custom Eyeshadow Palette) on the remaining 1/3 of my lids. Use a blending brush, blend the 2 colours together to remove the harsh edges.

STEP 3: Using an angled brush and Inception, gently draw a line along your crease, where your eye socket sinks in.

STEP 4: Apply a matte coral-red eyeshadow (Once again, I used my INGLOT Custom Eyeshadow Palette) along your crease and blend it with the purple eyeshadow drawed earlier.

STEP 5: Apply Precision Ink in Scribe on your lower lid.

STEP 6: Then, apply any purple gel/ liquid eyeliner you own ( I used Youngblood Incredible Wear Gel Liner in Black Orchid) under Scribe. Set the gel liner using Inception

STEP 7: Finally, using Milani Liquif'eye Metallic Eyeliner Pencil in Blue to line my lower lash line.

You can either leave it as it is like the first picture above or you can add a final touch by adding a blue liquid eyeliner. Personally, I think the look is incomplete without lining my upper lash line. But whatever floats your boat really :D

And finally, add a few generous coats of your favourite mascara. (I used Australis Voluptulash Mascara and Australis Killer Curves Mascara here - my all time favourite combo!) You may add some dramatic lashes here for a better effect but I was running out of time so I decided to give it a miss.

V-O-I-L-A! The Complete Eye Look!

Products on my FACE:

Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation in Shade 11
*Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation in Shade Au (the reason behind the dewy-bronzy look)
Illamasqua Powder Blush in Hush
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind In Nude
MAC Mineralised Skin Finish in Medium
*Jane Iredale In Touch Highligher in Complete

On my LIPS
*Illamasqua Lipstick in Atomic

Circle lenses worn here were from MUKUCHU* - EOS 201 2-Tone Toric Lenses in Blue

Here are a couple of outfit shots "styled" by Fashion Hayley:

It looks pretty "kawaii" in my opinion but definitely not something I would wear on a daily basis!
(Accessories are my own)

The entire outfit! :D

Got these burgundy booties from ZU for a steal of $30 when they were on sale! One of my best buys to date! Who says pretty stuff gotta be exy? :P

Hope you girls enjoyed this Harajuku inspired FOTD tutorial.
It has been a while since I have a tutorial that sways away from the usual "safe" neutral colours.

Do let me know if you would like me to do a detailed review or swatches on any of the products above!

Are you a fan of the Japanese fashion?
Have you created any "Harajuku-inspired" FOTD?
Please share them, I would love to check it out. :)

ThroughBeautyEyes is Back!! :)

Hello buttercups!

It has been a while. A while seems to be quite an understatement here. I have missed this humble space of mine and you lovely readers of course (if there are still any left after this 1.5 months hiatus of mine). Whatever it is, I am glad to say the hiatus is coming to an end and I am back with more random musings on make up, food, events and just anything.... random. =P

Just thought I did give you girls a quick update on what's been happenin' as of late:

First and foremost, I would like to send my deepest condolences to the Kelly's family.

If you are residing in Australia or follow Australian news, you would have probably came across this news on national TV or newspapers. A young and innocent 18 year old kid with his whole life ahead of him had fell victim to some animal with a fucked up mind who was probably on drugs.
Unprovoked. King. Punch.

I remember receiving a phone call from a friend on Sunday night letting me know of the incident to visiting the hospital. Everything happened so quickly and unexpected. Everything seems so surreal.

Tom was a colleague and a friend. He went from the shy young boy fresh from high school to a young man. We talked about gym, fitness, protein shakes, zumba classes, chicks - he was almost like a little brother. According to his mum, his life is finally on track and BAM - he was taken away just like that simply because some junkie was in the mood to fight.

Very unfortunately, the CCTVs around were not able to catch the face of the attacker. So, if you happened to be around the area last Saturday, please come forward and get in touch with NSW Police on 1800 333 000.

This shocking incident really put life into perspective - Life is too short and unexpected. Never take anything for granted.

:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:

ANYHOOS, I digress from the above...

As some of you may already know, I have finally moved into my new crib - which was the main reason why I have been disappearing from the blogosphere. All the packing, unpacking, organising have drawn most of my energy plus mommabear was in town as well, that leaves me almost no time to attend to this place. Not too mention, it took me over 2 weeks to have the internet connection set up in thie new place, blogging was almost mission impossible.

But fret not, ThroughBeautyEyes is back. There might be bits and pieces that required serious tweaking and the direction and future content of this blog is still work in progress. So stay tune for it in the upcoming months.

Packages from last week :)
Here is a sneak peak of my upcoming posts in the forthcoming weeks - heaps of products to try out and share with you guys. At the meantime, I will be having fun playing catch up with the severely backlogged post.

Till the next post...

XOXO,
A
