"Getting ready to go out moment"

Amanda from 2threads.com contacted me a couple of weeks ago, asking if I would like to share photos of my outfit options and make up choices before a night out. I figured why not since summer is PARTY TIME and partying is one of my favourite past times. I kid. I only enjoy parties with the right company and the right songs - RNB all the way baby!

HomeBar Australia by Smirnoff is also giving away a cocktail gift pack by just sharing my "tips". :)
Can I say no to cocktail gift pack? :P
I will be talking my make up choices instead of fashion since Through Beauty Eyes is more of a beauty blog and I am definitely not a fashion bloggers. Most of " my recommendations" are affordable drugstore brands since thats why Through Beauty Eyes was started in the first place - sharing my tips on how to look good without burning a hole in your pocket,  and also simply because I don't own that many high end products anyways.
We all love summer parties, cocktails by the beach, sun dress and most importantly you DON'T have to lug around a huge ass coat! However, summer also means sweating like a bucket and excessive heat. That being said, unless you're planning to look like the next Lindsay Lohan or Amy Winehouse, the last thing you want is to have your make up crease and smudge halfway during the night.
Very attractive, NOT!

TIP #1 - USE A PRIMER before applying your eyeshadow and foundation (if you have oily skin).

Primer prevents your make up from creasing, nuff said! I ALWAYS make sure I apply an eyeshadow primer before going creative with my make up. It helps the eyeshadow stays longer and also brings out the colour of the eyeshadow.  As for face primer, I have never used one since I have really dry skin. So creasing has never really been a problem for me.

My recommendation:
*Urban Decay Primer Potion (which apparently works WONDERS for many people, but it feels the same as ELF Mineral Eyeshadow Primer to me)
* ELF Mineral Eyeshadow Primer ( a WAY cheaper alternative)

(I have heard pretty good reviews about Smashbox and Laura Mercier's face primer. But don't quote me for that as I have never tried them. Do check them out if you're looking for a good one!)

TIP #2: WATERPROOF should be the only word in your dictionary when shopping for mascara and eyeliner. And if you're a falsies*click* person like me (when I go out), REMEMBER to opt for WATERPROOF ones too!

I think this is common sense. Unless it's a Halloween or dress up party with themes like Zombies or Vampires (somewhere along the line), smudged eyeliner/ mascara is a big no no! Try to use gel or liquid liner as they tend to last longer and do not crease as easily as eyeliner pencil.

My recommendation:
* Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Liner
* Milani Liquif'eye Metallic Eyeliner Pencil (Review HERE)
* Cover Girl LashBlast Waterproof Mascara
* Maybelline Volume Colossal Waterproof Mascara

TIP #3:  BLEND, blend and BLEND to achieve the perfect smokey eyes!

I guess thats pretty self explanatory. Sometimes, people tend to forget the power of blending. It soften the looks and no, harsh edges is not sexy!

My recommendation:
* Just any soft blending brush will do such as ELF or Coastal Scents.

TIP #4: DON'T go overboard with bold colours. Pick ONE feature you would like to focus on - bright eyes, neutral lips OR bright lips, neutral eyes.

BOLD LIPS NEUTRAL EYES

Viva Glam Cyndi *click for full details*

BOLD EYES NEUTRAL LIPS

 PEACOCK *click for full details*

Exotic Green Smokey Eyes *click for full details*

Simple as ABC. Once again, if its not a halloween or dress up party or unless you're going for an extreme runway look, NEVER leave the house with colourful eyes and a bright red lips. You will risk looking like a clown.

OR

you can always try the neutral pop *click* look!

TIP #5:  Set your foundation/concealer and eyeshadows with pressed powder or translucent powder.

I am pretty sure you don't want your foundation melting away while you are shaking your booty to your all time favourite song. So, don't forget this step!

My recommendation:
Maybelline Dream Matte Powder
Rimmel Matte Pressed Powder

That pretty much sums up my tips for summer party and my "make up choices" ie recommendations.
All my recommendations are actually affordable and inexpensive as well as products that I used and really like! See? You don't need to pay through your throat to look good, although I can do with another 294823082034 lipsticks and 82703247238 MAC eyeshadows. :P

great tips!

i use the smashbox photofinish foundation primer which is silicone base. while it fills in pores/lines for a smoother 'canvas' prior to foundation, its not the best when it comes to prolonging the staying power of foundation so while i really love it, i won't recommend it for summer :)

haha if there's only one tip i can share, it'll be waterproof all the way! melting and smearing is not sexy! i think makeup forever has a type of makeup sealant to create a waterproof barrier on your makeup :)
