Champagnes X Oysters | Laurent Perrier X The Langham, Sydney

It's not every Tuesday that you get an endless flow of premium French champagne with unlimited fresh oysters at a renowned 5 star hotel.
(As much as I wish I do :P)

I was lucky enough to attend the launch of "The Season" by Laurent-Perrier at the start of November and needless to say, french bubbly and oyster is a pretty sweet combination on a Tuesday night.

For those of you who wonders who and where The Langham is - they are located on the border of the historic Rocks district, replacing the Observatory Hotel. In the month of November, The Langham came together with Laurent-Perrier and brings you a celebration of champagne and spring flora - "The Season".

Champagne Shower?

Not sure about you but this is definitely MY kinda dinner ;P
I could definitely get use to drinking Laurent Perrier on a weekly basis. #baller

It certainly has the European circa 1960s feel to it and would definitely love to come back for a high tea sesh.

Did I mention that I am officially a fresh oyster convert at the launch party all thanks to Maria who made sure I give them a try?
Not sure if the Vintage Laurent Perrier was the main catalyst, but smashing half a dozen of fresh oysters for someone who used to avoid them at all costs is pretty impressive. ;)

OFFICIALLY a fresh oyster convert!

With Maria from @CrashingRed and @SoNailicious

So, what's the #beauty of The Langham, Sydney:

- Located at the border of The Rocks means you get to avoid the hustle and bustle of CBD, making it a perfect spot for a weekend "getaway" or "StayCation" (as I like to put it).
- The Langham spells elegance, sophistication and luxurious, definitely the place to spoil and pamper someone if you are looking to treat yourself and your loved ones.

Heels: ASOS
Bag: MARCS

What's on for the remaining month of November:

Tiffin Afternoon Tea featuring bite size gougeres, chocolate fudge cupcakes with rose petal buttercream and hazelnut & Salted caramel Dacquoise. And here come the best part - receive complimentary upgrade to a glass of Laurent - Perrier Vintage when you order a Champagne Tiffin Afternoon Tea.
Served daily, prices from $64

Champagne and Oysters consisting of a trio of Sydney Rock oysters, served with a champagne vinegar mignonette and a glass of Laurent - Perrier Brut.
Served daily, for only $25.

Champagne Dinner - 5 course degustation with matching champagne in Galileo Restaurant
Only on 27 November 2013, RRP $150

If you gotta pick a treat out of the three, I would personally go for the Champagne and Oysters special if you are a huge oysters fan. Promise you wouldn't be disappointed for $25 a pop! Probably wouldn't mind the Tiffin Afternoon Tea with the girlfriends either, especially with the complimentary upgrade to a glass of Laurent - Perrier Vintage. Any "complimentary upgrade" is always music to my ears especially when it involves French vintage champagne. Don't cha agree?

Once again, a huge thank you to Liquid Ideas for the invite and Langham Sydney & Laurent Perrier for a great night.

Disclaimer: I was invited to the launch of The Season by Langham X Laurent Perrier as a guest. I am not compensated for this post nor commissioned for any new patrons that decide to walk into Langham after reading this post.

A

7 PRE PRO BLOGGER 2013 CHECKLIST

"What are your plans this weekend?"

"Gold Coast babyyy!"

"Lucky you - gonna have a massive one aye"

"Nar, I am heading there for a conference so I gotta behave on Friday"

Uttering the word "conference" just made me feel intelligent and important already. HA.

I have been to a few blogging/sponsored/free conferences over the past couple of years (ABBW in 2011, Beauty Blogger Utopia in 2012, The Entourage Young Entrepreneurs Unconvention this year) but this would be my first paid conference I am attending (out of my own pocket unfortunately) in the past 24 years in my life. Can't blame for being so excited yet nervous at the same time, can you?

And since creating list is like totes, the thing right now, I am gonna have a ProBlogger2013 checklist for the *cough* important *cough* stuff.
(What I pack in my travel/ make up bag deserves a post on its own :P)

Notebook; PowerBank; Business Cards; Pens

1. Me, myself and I. By I, I meant my iPhone and iPad Mini.  What's a social media/ blogging conference without the new media devices? Still debating if I am going to lug my MacBook Pro with me as I reckon my mini would do but I like being equipped.

2. Chargers.  The devices mentioned above serve no purpose without your trusty charger. I will be bringing both my wall charger and portable charger aka power bank (seriously, BEST. INVENTION. EVER. if you're a social media junkie like myself). I swear my hand drains my phone battery simply by holding it.

3. A pretty Notebook.  As much as I am married to my iPhone and iPad, I still enjoy writing on a good ol' notebook especially when it comes to making goals and lists. With colourful pens, may I add.

BTW, my @EatThisBurnThat business card is designed using Canva. If you're a graphic design noob like myself and need some quick designing fix, get an invitation now to try out the new Canva (as they are still in beta phase!)

4. Business cards.  The last thing you want is having to write down your contact details and all your social media platform for every blog crush/ potential collaborator you meet. It takes time and not cool. I had my ThroughBeautyEye cards all ready to go and having my EatThisBurnThat ones printed tomorrow!  (Thumbs up for being so last minute. :P)

5. A checklist & schedule. To ensure that you're making the most out of PB, make a checklist of goals (ie, what are you expecting/ the outcomes from this conference), people you want to meet (hello, twitter pal!) and most importantly the sessions you want to attend. As there will be multiple sessions happening concurrently, its important to pick the ones that are most aligned to your blog goals/ direction.

6. Plan your outfits.  If you're not from Brisbane like myself, nothing is worst than an outfit crisis. So, make sure you have your outfits planned (and always bring an extra "emergency"outfit or two. just in case...) especially for the Friday networking night. Apparently, Hilton Surfer Paradise and bubbly are involved. :P

7. Mint.  Pleasant breath in a networking event is mandatory. Nuff said. Do you want to be known as "that chick/ guy with the garlic breath"? I guess not.

REEF After Sun & Tan Extender, Coconut Sun Screen & www.clearlycontacts.com.au sunnies.

BONUS: Sunnies, sun screen and after sun care because what is a trip to Surfer Paradise without these necessities?

These are the important stuff - I will have a sequel post on my travel/ carry on bag! Yes, no prizes for those who guessed that I will be lugging all these products with me to make sure my make up is oh-so-long-lasting.

ONE more sleep to Gold Coast and TWO MORE SLEEPS to Pro Blogger, I am pretty stoked. Can't wait to meet a few of my social media-pals, catching up with bloggers, and most importantly learn, learn and learn more about blogging!

If you're gonna be there this weekend, don't forget to say hi!
I promise, I don't smell. :P

The Entourage Young Entrepreneurs' Unconvention Wrap Up (Part 1) - Jack Delosa on Entrepreneurial Success!

"99% of success is about showing up"

Once again, I got a little carried away on my usual Friday night shenanigans and was just a wee bit tempted to skip The Unconvention by The Entourage on Saturday. I am quite a morning person but a 9am start on a Saturday with tonnes of accumulated sleep debt can be quite a mission, ya know.
But HEY, I am another step closer to success since I did show up. :P

On a serious note though, I am SO glad I did as I walked out of the convention with a highly information-saturated brain, feeling inspired and motivated with a few ideas popping up in my head. Definitely the kick I needed to achieve my 2013 goals. :)

So, just a little background of The Entourage - which I came across by accident via one of the Facebook groups I joined.

The Entourage is Australia's largest group of real entrepreneurs and executives under 40, which provides a place for entrepreneurs, high-growth business and executives to network, connects Australia's best entrepreneurs with Australia's next entrepreneurs and offers real business education by people with "been there done that" experience.

The Young Entrepreneurs' Unconvention is the largest event for entrepreneurs under 40 (also known as Gen - Y entrepreneurs) in Australia with leading speakers like Jack Delosa (founder of The Entourage), Petar Lackovic (Entrepreneur & Business Coach who generated half a billion in sales for his clients) and Katherine Sampson (Founder of Australia's largest sandwich franchise - Healthy Habits).

Jack Delosa is the founder of The Entourage - a Gen Y Entrepreneur who has been named in Australia's Top 10 Entrepreneurs under 30 for 4 consecutive years. He is also named "The Young Aussie Millionaire That Didn't Finish Uni" by the Sunrise.

Please handover a blade so I can slit my wrist kthxbai.

:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+::+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:

SO, what does this down-to-earth bloke have gotta say about Entrepreneurship?

HARD WORK AND ON- GOING LEARNING ARE THE KEYS TO BECOMING A SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEUR

HARD WORK

Talent is overrated, said Jack. You want to be successful - you just gotta work hard. There's no easy way. Period.
Whoever tells you it is going to be easy - RUN.

ONGOING LEARNING

Jack cannot emphasise enough the importance of on - going learning and personal development.
Ask yourself:

How much have you invested (both time and money) in learning in the last 3 years?
How much have you invested into professional and personal development?

*Just because the guy tells you he has 20 years experience doesn't mean he has 20 years worth of experience. It could probably just be the same experience, repeated 20 times.*

ALWAYS ALWAYS invest and dedicate time into learning.

:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+::+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:

Lets have a quick look at some stats from the 2012 Dun and Bradstreet Business Start-Up and Failures Report before Jack's Tips to Entrepreneurial Success:

1. Business bankruptcies have increased by 48% in the last 12 months alone.

2. The number of businesses starting has decreased by 98%.

3. Of the business that started between 2007 and 2009, one third have already failed.

What should you be doing (or shouldn't be doing) to make sure your business is not one of the ones that went bankrupt the ones that failed?

:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+::+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:

JACK DELOSA'S 7 STEPS TO ENTREPRENEURIAL SUCCESS:

1. Lean Start Up

Discover quickly what works and what doesn't.

Jack's #1 rule to start up: To fail and fail fast.
Enter the market fast and find a viable business model before you run out of business funds.

Failure is not the main reason start ups failed - the inability to fail fast and find a viable & sustainable business model is.

2. Branding

Develop a brand that compels people to do business with you.

"When you establish a personal brand and business brand that is visible in the media, opportunity starts to find you"

3. Business Development

Create leveraged ways of generating business through strategic partnerships and leveraged PR/ media coverage.

THREE QUESTIONS when it comes to identifying SYNERGY OPPORTUNITIES and DEVELOPING STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS:

- WHO is your complementary business/ partner?

So how do we identify a complementary business?

1) Where do my customers go BEFORE they buy my products?
2) Where do they go AFTER they buy my products?
3) Who services the same target market as I do but offers different products and/or services?

- WHAT is the compelling reason for this strategic partnership?

Always lead with what YOU can offer when it comes to establishing strategic partnership.

"If its not free, it has gotta be a SHIT HOT DEAL"

- HOW to develop compelling offer to consumer that benefits both parties?

The Maccas and Disney partnerships which benefit both businesses over the years, from Happy Meal deals to setting up McDonalds at Disneyland theme parks.

Always remember: 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing.

4. Online Strategy.

Aim for market leadership online.

That translates to drive more traffic to your website and convert more traffic on your website.

Everything is possible on the internet in today's world - all you need leverage the web technologies to build strong relationships online.

5. Management.

Implement efficient management that enables growth and this could be done via centralised systemisation.

Centralised systemisation ensures that the operations are synchronised across the business, employees have clear instructions and understanding on tasks they are required to perform and most importantly, to maximise efficiency.

According to Jack, The Entourage systemised almost everything - from operations manuals to reporting and letter templates to the EXACT direction to the nearest post office. I shit you not.

"Everything that happens twice, we systemised"
- Jack Delosa on centralised systemisation of The Entourage -

6. Capital Raising and Acquisitions.

Know how to raise funds for your business and acquire other business (when the opportunity arises).

CAPITAL RAISING

Only 1 succeed out of every 4,000 businesses that tried to raise capital.

Many would put the blame on "insufficient funds in the Land Down Under" when it comes to failure to raise capital but really, the #1 barrier to raising capital drills down to not finding the right opportunity and entrepreneurs are often not prepared when the doors open.

Entrepreneurs should ALWAYS be prepared with the answers to these THREE QUESTIONS ON EVERY INVESTOR'S MIND:

1) Will I lose my money?

The investors want to know if you have a solid foundation and business model. What's the concept of your business? Do you have any proof to back these up? Who's driving the business? Do you have a mentor to guide and coach you?

2) When wil I get my money back?

The investors want to know if you have a clear and defined exit strategy which will guarantee their return. What's the timeline/ lifecycle of the business?

3) Will I make money?

The investors want to know if there's any growth opportunity within the business. What are the milestones achieved to date and how likely will the investor make a return? Is the projected future real and realistic?

If you have got these questions covered, your success rate will definitely be higher the next time you meet your potential investor(s).

ACQUISITION

Why should I acquire another business when I am planning to sell my business in the short term anyways? One may ask.

According to Jack, the valuation of an average business sold is 2X its profit.

For example:
A business is worth $200k, you bought it for $400k and sold it for $800k. You made an arbitrage profit of $400k.

Such arbitrage profit seems so much more straight forward compared to all the arbitrage profits made through shares and stocks (per my finance textbooks), don't you reckon?

7. Exit Strategy.

Build significant value (via acquisitions) and sell for the highest possible price.

"#1 difference between a good and a great company - the leaders of great companies have LONG TERM perspective"

A great business with long term perspective will think of an exit plan at an initial stage.

Whilst you weren't expected to think of selling your business before it is launched but an exit strategy should definitely be included in your business planning as it might potentially affect your business model.

There you go ladies and gets, lot's of information consumption there. I hope you managed to have some takeaway here - just like I did and feel free to leave a comment below if you have any questions. Through Beauty Eyes 2.0 and #LiveAspireBlog

HOWDY!

As mentioned in my New Years Resolutions post , 2013 is about figuring out the direction of my career, this blog and life in general! I'm proud to say that it's going well thus far. I have been spending more time reading coaching, inspirational self help, careers (mainly women focus) blogs (all of which I used to think was bullshit) and they really help and my perspectives have changed so much since then! While I'm still a LONG way to go but I am definitely closer to where I want to be!

So, I don't think I have ever went through my history of blogging.

ThroughBeautyEyes is turning 3 this April, but I started blogging back in 2006 - being the rebellious 18 year old I was, I need a place to release my teen frustration and rants. Then, it evolved into a VERY personal blog throughout my university life, which talks about everything from my exam & assignment stress (PFFFT, those were NOTHING compared to the quarter life crisis I'm facing now) to issues with my room mate when I first moved out on my own, heartbreaks & crushes, crazy parties and events I attended (Looking back at those photos, I wonder how did I cope with partying for 3 consecutive days) and my battle with food, losing weight, fitness, bullemia (all of which will be revealed at Eat This Burn That soon! Head over to my ETBT FACEBOOK PAGE and "Like" it to keep yourself updated!) - just anything under the sun really!

Through Beauty Eyes was born approximately three years ago when I decided to shut my personal blog with the fear that my potential future employer is able to track down all my crazy shenanigans, my hot crush of the week, my angry moments...on the World Wide Web. Yet, I wasn't ready to give up blabbing about random stuff online. And BAM - ThroughBeautyEyes was created. It became a platform for me to express my passion and love for make up/ beauty products and to share my cheap and awesome finds (who doesn't like the #winning feeling of snatching a good bargain?) - hence, the name "beauty". I talk, blog, rave about my favourite lipstick colours (which changes every couple of days. I know.), my new FOTD, the new dupe I discovered - all things related to beauty.

However, beauty in my eyes has now gone beyond just lipstick, eyeshadows and blushes. Don't get me wrong, I'm still very much in love with my beauty products. Heck, I even painted my nails despite a broken finger (much to the amusement of my physiotherapist and many friends). Beauty in my eyes consists of appreciation of simple pleasures in life such as a good brunch spot, a cup of good coffee, a bottle of good wine, cool pubs and bars, fashion, health and fitness (@EatThisBurnThat) - just anything that makes me happy!

So, do expect new features and more beauty unrelated stuff in this space! Its going to be a slow evolution as I'm still trying to "soul search", reevaluating stuff and tweak what's right for the blog! This is probably why my updates have been sporadic and inconsistent over the past few months. I could blame it on my injury, my work, being "flat out"...But these excuses are getting stale and IF I really want to, I would have been able to find time for to update.

Ok, enough of babblings!Me thinks its time for some visual and fun stuff! I mean, a blog post is incomplete without pictures, don't you agree?

So, as part of my "branching out from beauty" initiatives, I decided to RSVP to the Blogging & Entrepreneurs #LiveAspireBlog Meet Up organised by the lovely and inspiring Jess from Live Healthy Simply and Ursula from The Aspirer last Sunday after finding out about it from Katherine of Through My Looking Glass!

Definitely something new and never been done before.

On the contrary to popular belief, I can be shy at times and maybe a tad socially awkward when it comes to networking events. #truestory

Hence, I dragged along my partner in crime - Miss An Ly who has a lovely blog at Lemon Lime Glitters!

The meet up was held at a vegan friendly cafe at Bondi Junction - Earth To Table which serves raw treats and superfoods! My advice is - don't underestimate these superfoods. A little go a LONG way! I could barely finish half a glass of my Raw Chocolate Superfood Smoothie with Maca, Goji and Lucuma (I think I will stick to #eatclean for now - superfood is a whole new level for me! Lol).

DELICIOUS & GUILT FREE treats!!

Truth to be told, I was THIS close to bailing because weather was absolute rubbish on Saturday and the event starts at 9:30am (Yes, its almost unheard of that Adeline will be seen at 9:30am on a Sunday morning.) I am glad the angel side took over me that morning and rocked up instead. THANK GOD I DID. After meeting and speaking to the ambitious ladies with the same goals and objectives, I left feeling more inspired and recharged!

"Do not expect positive changes in your life if you surround yourself with negative people"

That statement could never be more accurate and spot on! I used to think it is bullshit and it's just another "life quote". But trust me, once you start hanging around like-minded people who strive towards the same direction as you, you will more motivated and hungry for success.

The two lessons that I have taken away with me from that quick meet up were:

1. Never say never. You just gotta believe in yourself, believe that you can succeed and take the plunge. There will never be the right moment. So JUST DO IT.

2. Start screening the people you have been hanging around with and stay away from the negative people. They do more harm than good to any goals you have. You know those who doubt you the instant you tell them your ideas/ plans instead of providing constructive criticism? YES, THOSE.

Being surrounded my inspiring people is simply amazing! It keeps me going whenever I am on the verge of giving up or having self doubt! Trust me, it really makes a difference! :)

I hope you guys are as excited as I am about the changes in the future!

Let me know if there's any new features that you would love to see on Through Beauty Eyes!

XOXO,
A

QUICKIE UPDATE: A little bit of everything + disco ball nails ft ORLY Can't Be Tamed & Be Brave

So, once again, I might have gone on another unannounced hiatus.
#BeautyBloggingFail #12837127319237912

This was my excuse - cramming and squeezing every drop of my brain juice dry for my final and (hopefully) last exam for my Chartered Accountant Program! That was how I spent my 24th birthday too -have a hot time sexing it up with my EBA notes.
Don't mind the fatty TimTams - its part of my exam diet. ;)

I know, I have left you ladies hanging from my Beauty Bloggers Utopia Day 01, which was over a week ago. Shame on me. Don't worry, I promise to kill your bandwidth in my next post with more photos from my #BBU12 weekend. ;)

For now, just a quickie update about what have been happening in the past 10 days or so when I disappeared from le blog:

Attended Bio Oil's 10th birthday at Chiswick which left me leaving with a 5-months-food-baby! A more detailed update on that to come.

I won a giveaway from my fellow base toucher - Michaela from LatherRinseRepeat! She incorporates some pretty damn awesome GIFs in her blog post, show her (and her GIFs) some love!
A word of advice, I hope you aren't drinking or eating as I will not be held responsible for anything that lands on your computer screen (mainly whatever you have in your mouth at that moment). ;)

I received a MASSIVE love package from my favourite LA chica - Gwen <3 nbsp="nbsp" p="p">
I will be sending some love to your way shortly!!

Turned another year older - to the ripe age of 24.
And no longer do I enjoy a massive birthday cake - a variety of nomlicious cake pawns a massive cake of the same flavour ANYTIME. Maybe, I am just a #fatshit ;)
Those lemon tart & ricotta cheese cake were orgasmic!!!

Signed and sealed - starting a new job on Monday!! I am excited yet nervous at the same time as this is something quite different to what I have done in the past 2 years! Nevertheless, it's a fresh, new beginning!!!
Also, lunch buddy required in Bondi Junction, enquire within. ;)

Weekend DISCO NAILS featuring ORLY Can't Be Tamed & Be Brave - ready to PARTY ROCK tonight with birthday drinks and a night out with the crew!!!

Hope you guys have a lovely weekend ahead and happy Friday!!!

What have you got planned for the weekend?
