FOTD + Sydney Winter Festival 2010

This post was meant to be posted on Friday evening, before heading out for a friend's birthday. Clearly, it was a failed attempt. The consolation is, it was a rather productive Friday - I ordered my graduation photos, like FINALLY, 3 months after graduation cos I am awesome like this; bought a few books online since I was on a make up ban (and I broke it today *FAIL*,more on that in the future post =P); sent out 1793817389137817389189 resumes, trying to get a REAL job and edited my photos, so do expect more posts coming up real soon. :D

I know I have been kinda laggy with my post, after my posting streaks early this week as I didn't have work till Wednesday. Speaking of which, I am such a genius to pick the only TWO days in the week with world cup matches. You can probably imagine what a dead duck I was on Thursday night after surviving on 4 hours of sleep + 8 hours shift for 2 consecutive days.

This is the my FOTD when I went for Sydney's Winter Festival 2010 last Sunday. I just went with a simple neutral brown look (an almost fail proof look =P) after a full-on make up the night before and I was feeling extremely tired (read: cbf-ness).

One of the main reasons I miss my long hair dearly is being able to tie my hair up on a bad hair day and still look good.

The open performance before we were let into the ice skating rink.

Now, I can proudly say that, I.CAN.SKATE!
I know being able to skate might not be a biggie to some of you but for those who know me in person should know how uncoordinated AND clumsy I am (think of someone who manage to twist her ankle while trying to switch off her alarm and someone who knocks over her wine glass while she was trying to get up to the washroom, sober too may I add. you get the picture). Hence, being able to master the skills of skating in literally 5 minutes is a freakin' HUGE achievement for me, and all my friends were shocked and surprised. No kidding. I hope it wasn't a one off thing and I would still be able to skate the next time I go skating.

St Mary Cathedral.

After having an awesome time ice-skating, we were all starving and wanted to have some scrumptious Malaysian food at Mamak but the line was insanely long (why am I not surprised). After having 823423947283 suggestions being thrown on the table, we finally settled for Delima, an Indonesian cuisine located right at the corner of Dixon St and Liverpool St.

The food there was on the pricey side but I must say, it was worth every penny paid. And the best is yet to come :)

Clock wise from top left: Spicy Ayam Rempah, Ayam Rempah (some fried chicken thingamajig ), steamed fish and beef rendang

Clock wise from top left: Tempura prawns, Fried Rice Noodles, BBQ shrimps and BELACAN KANGKUNG ( my ALL time favourite, I don't really know the English name for it either.)

DURIAN PANCAKES MADE FROM FRESH DURIAN FLESH!!!!

For those who doesn't enjoy the smell and taste of durian (like a few friends of mine who nearly spewed from trying this pancake) , well you're missing out in life. =P
I gotta give an 11/10 for this pancake - it is made out of FRESH DURIAN FLESH, ie actual durian and not using some durian flavouring. The moment your teeth sinks into the soft, tender and creamy durian flesh and the aroma of durian evaporates through every inch of your mouth; your taste bud is experiencing the best orgasm ever....... Ok, I shall stop here cos clearly my description skills is just atrocious... But you get how GOOD these pancakes were right?

Sorry for digressing a lil too much and turning this beauty blog into a food blog. I can't help it when it comes too food LOL, I love food as much as I love my make up. I am sure most of you are with me right? =P (Or I hope you are, so I don't seem that much of a pig LOL)

Also, just another random question (not quite beauty related but whatever),

Have any of you skied before? How do you like it?

I am really tempted to join my mates for skiing in the snow (now that I found my hidden talent - ice skating LOL) but it costs almost A$700 for 2 days, including ski passes and accommodation. I REALLY want to go to New Zealand but that's the closet I can get. But, A$700 for a noob? Really?

Till next time lovelies :D

TBE 3 in 1: Of Illamasqua's "Make UP Lesson", Mini Haul & FOTD

Hey lovelies,

How's your week so far? This is gonna be another 3 in 1 post, where there's a mixture of random blabbering, a mini haul last week ( I know I was meant to be on a shopping ban but I have a somewhat legit reason!) and FOTD. :)

So, I managed to book myself in for a FREE "Make Up Lesson" with Illamasqua (A cult British brand for those who don't know) which worth A$70 (or so they claim.) through Sassisamblog last Wednesday. Due to the positive reviews I have read about them and my random visit to MYER the week before to check out their newly opened counter, I was pretty damn excited.

For a Make Up Lesson worth A$70, you'd expect something good right. That being said, I rocked up with an almost bare face - only had my moisturiser, a VERY thin layer of pressed powder and lippie on, as what you would normally do before going for a make up lesson/make over. To my dismay, I was told by the Make Up Artist that the make up lesson only includes ONE part, its either your eyes, or face or contouring. Considering that its a complimentary make up lesson, I am not really in a place to be picky, so I opted for eyes, since that's my favourite part of a make up routine. I don't really mind, to be honest as I am usually very simple when it comes to face products.

NOW, I would automatically associate "concealing under eye dark circles" as part of an eye make up. My eyebags were atrocious that day thanks to the lack of sleep due to my World Cup body clock and I was watching Spain V Portugal the night before. I was left in shock when the MUA "concealed" my upper lid using a concealer, which apparently serves as an eyeshadow base too (and failed big time. More on that later) and moved on to applying the lid colour WITHOUT CONCEALING MY EYE BAGS. Oh dear god.

I am trying to be reasonable here, its after all a complimentary make up lesson and obviously, its not gonna be as full on as one that you actually pay. And it was partially my own fault for not asking the MUA about concealing my eye bags (clearly surviving on 4 hours of sleep the night before is not making me think straight). BUT, isn't "concealing" like the golden rule for applying make up and its is pretty much implied that all MUA would conceal any flaws (the eye part in my case) without me having to ask? OH, I am also amazed by the fact that "filling eyebrows" wasn't part of the deal. =.="

Don't get me wrong, I am not pissed off or anything (Its free) , I was just very disappointed with the final result. The purple smokey eyes (as requested) I had was alright -nothing too epic (as seen in their posters) to shout about and it was something that I could easily do it myself. And the fact that I did not bring any concealer or blush with me simply means that I am going to look like I just got punched in the face, with the smokey eyes and eyebags combination. Go figure.

Concealer/ Eyeshadow Base, White Eyeliner

 Eyeshadows,Pigments, brushes & Mascara

The products used are as above. Unfortunately, I did not take an after photo cos I was hurrying to Priceline to grab a few essentials before meeting up with my friend, W because it was that bad. The lid colour was completely gone by arvo - yes, so I am pretty much left with a naked lid and smokey outer V. Thank god for the REVLON Colorstay Eyeliner I had in my make up pouch to save the day. This gave me a really bad impression on their eyeshadows/ pigments as my eyeshadows barely crease, especially after setting with a base. (For those who don't already know, I have really dry skin and that probably explains why.) The mascara the MUA used did not give me the volume and the curls did not last long too. The only good thing about this entire "lesson" was the Underworld Lipstick, which costs a whooping A$39 ( slightly more expensive than MAC).

Just to make it clear, I did not write this post to bag them out or anything. I am merely sharing my experience with Illamasqua so far. They have recently open a counter in Sydney CBD Myer store at Sydney Centre Plaza, so do check it out and maybe you can be the judge yourself. My experience with them was clearly a let down though, after all the good reviews I read about them and I doubt I will be purchasing their products anytime soon. (although they do have pretty good nail colours)

Have you tried any Illamasqua's products and how do you find them?

:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:

ANYWAYS, I hope I did not bore you guys with my "thesis" which justified the mini haul I had, despite my make up ban. These products (well, most of them) are emergency products! LOL

- Rimmel Hide the Blemish Concealer in Ivory
- Prestige Fresh Glow Baked Mineral Blush in Pink
- Rimmel Eyebrow Pencil in Hazel
- Barry M Lip Paint in 129
- Barry M Lip Gloss
( The last 2 products weren't exactly "ermergency" but I knew I had to pay Glover Chemist a visit when I found out they stock up on Barry M products from Jojoba from My Make Up Review)

I have been using the Rimmel's Concealer stick everyday since I bought them, as well as the Prestige Blush in Pink (which is apparently a dup for MAC's Well Dressed blush) and Barry M Lip Paint. So, I guess my disappointing experience with Illamasqua was probably a sign for me to discover these awesome babies LOL.

:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:

Lastly, a simple neutral smokey FOTD to end this post. :D

FOTD - SUNSET

Hello lovelies! :)

This FOTD reminds me of sunset somehow, though its not really a sunset inspired look. *shrugZ*

Does it remind you of sunset?  I reckon its the mixture of orange and light orange colour?

Am I the only one who gets weird comments from their mums when it comes to make up?

FOTD - Baked Spices

It has been a couple of days since my last post. My apologies, was caught up with a few things and I didn't have time to watermark my photos, hence lack of updates. As always, I try to have a string of posts over the weekend. And speaking of long weekend, YAY to the Aussies, it's the LONG WEEKEND babyyyy!!! Perfect timing for the Australia V Germany match (though we all know who's gonna win anyways =P)

This is a quick and simple look created using my Physician Formula Baked Eyeshadows in Baked Spice - my all time favourite: bronze and brown (the 2 colours you can never go wrong with). The colours look pigmented but it is far from it. This is definitely going into my "products I regret purchase" list (more on that in my review).

Layering is the new black this winter!!! =P
Pink Animal Printed top from Cotton On (for 5 BUCKS =P)
Beige Long Cardigan from Cotton On (Original price was $39.90 but I got it for 15bucks because it was "stained" at the back but W and I took a good 5 minutes to finally spot the stain. In another words, its almost invisible :D)
BF Blazer - gift from a friend (which I didn't end up wearing cos it was TOO COLD! Boo!)

As promised in my last post, this is how my nails look like now - A good mixture of China Glaze For Audrey and Refresh Mint ♥♥♥

What are your plans for the weekend, lovelies? Hope you all have a great one =P

What's crackin'? Hope all is well for you. =) Just a quick FOTD (with ALOT of camwhoring just because I can =P) and some random stuff before I hit the sack.

Decided to use The Faceshop Jewel Effect Duo I received along with my Alice in the Wonderland purchase to create a simple and chic look. No kidding, it took me approximately 5 minutes to do my eyes. Easy peasy. =)

I played around with the "tuning effect" on Picasa because PhotoShop is too cool for me :( and here are the final results =P

Whaddaya think?

NOTD - China Glaze in Re-Fresh Mint (This was before I removed it for my interview today. Stay tune for next post to see what my new nail colour is/are =D )
I am so happy to FINALLY own this colour as I have been wanting it for ages. Absolutely love this colour!!! ♥

Have you tried this colour or any China Glaze products? Do you love them as much as I love mine? :)

:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:

I know, I know. Guilty as charged. Make up ban failed. BUT, Physicans Formula is having 50% off its entire range and apparently their baked shadow is pretty good? *Puppy dog eyes*

Baked Spices - Can't wait to try it out! Will probably do a step-by-step blog-torial if I have the time before work tomorrow. :)

This 9-coloured Custom Eye Enhancing Shadow and Liner for Brown Eyes is a gift for my little sister, who's just starting to discover the beauty of make up. :)

Have any of you tried this? What are your thoughts on this product?
I was contemplating if I should get one for myself. THEN, I thought of my make up ban (SEE, I remember! *sticks tongue out*)
Should I get one for myself too?

Sorry for the rather sporadic post today as I am pretty exhausted. :( That's it for tonight. Till next time, lovelies. :D

XOXO,
A
